Why are footballers with adidas sponsored kits being allowed to wear nike boots?

Question by Think_it_Do_it: Why are footballers with adidas sponsored kits being allowed to wear nike boots?
Just this moment I saw Michael Essien, a Chelsea player which has adidas as its kit sponsor, tying his Nike football shoelaces. I don’t see the logic in this. Can anybody help me? Sources please.

Nike boots are generally better.

    Adidas make the kit for Chelsea, that does not mean that they have the rights to tell the player to wear their product. The players can choose theyre own boots or endorse any boot company they wish to.

    because who ever sponsors the team is nothing to do with the individual
    obviously the whole team has to wear the same kit,but the boots is a personal choice of the player,so if nike want to pay essien more money than puma for wearing there boots that’s the option hes allowed to go with

    Whereas a team’s shirt sponsor is out of a players hands, most stipulate what products they are and are not allowed endorse as individuals. It makes sense for players to promote boots.

    For one, they can argue that the boots they wear affect performance, and so the club’s sponsorship arrangement should not effect their choice of boot.

    Secondly, players get transferred from team to team, and shirt sponsors change, so a long term endorsement deal signed by a player shouldn’t be put at risk by changes in the teams endorsements.

    Club pays them to wear the supplied kit: shirt, shorts, socks
    Company pays them to wear their products: shoes, gloves, headgear, glasses, underwear, panties in case of Ronaldo

    Adidas sponsor the kit not the boots. Some players may have an advertising contract with a boot manufacturer so they would wear that manufacturers boots.
